Police Used Info From Phone Of State Witness Bianca Horton In Making Arrests For Her Murder

  • Tuesday, October 2, 2018

Police used records from the phone of state witness Bianca Horton to make three arrests in her murder, according to a lengthy indictment against alleged members of the Athens Park Bloods.

The state is seeking the death penalty against Charles "Slick Blood" Shelton, Courtney "Killa Red" High and Andre "Hollywood" Grier for her murder.

Horton had been set to testify against Cortez Sims in a Jan. 17, 2015, mass shooting at College Hill Courts. Ms. Horton was grazed by a bullet and her young daughter, Zoe, was left paralyzed. Talitha Bowman was killed. Marcel "Baby Watts" Christopher was shot, but survived.

High, Shelton and Grier are among 55 defendants the state says are members of the Athens Park Bloods. They are being prosecuted under the Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Organizations Act (RICO).

The indictment says the Athens Park Bloods meet regularly and collect funds to pay for gang activities. It says young gang members who do not follow orders are subject to punishment, including death.

It was noted that Ms. Horton testified on Jan. 7, 2015, in Juvenile Court against Sims in the College Hill Courts shootings. She had earlier identified him as the shooter.

The indictment says members of the Athens Park Bloods had conversations about not wanting Ms. Horton to testify against Sims. It says before May 25, 2016, that Shelton, Grier and other gang members began making plans to prevent her from doing so.

It says Grier had a conversation with Cordelle "Brazzy Blood" Collier in which Grier said, ". . . was suppose to be going to pick up a van for the other little situation that was going on."

Grier then purchased a van in his name, it was stated. He then pay for it to be painted white.

On May 24, 2016, Ms. Horton was at work at a firm on Quintus Loop. She left work sometime after 10 p.m. and made it to her apartment parking lot at 1020 W. 37th St. Her car was found parked with her keys and two cell phones scattered about inside the vehicle.

Her body was found beside 2165 Elder St. the next day.

Police obtained data related to cell towers near where the victim worked, the location of her apartment, and where her body was found. The indictment says two cell phones belonging to Shelton and one belonging to Grier hit on all three towers that evening.

It says High made a number of phone calls to other gang members about the killing of Bianca Horton. It says he admitted to being present and participating in her kidnapping and murder.

The indictment says afterward Shelton and Grier moved the white van to where it had been house to 5510 O'Leary St. Measures were taken to clean out the van, it was stated. Shelton then boasted that no evidence would be found in the van, the indictment says.

The FBI located the van and discovered a fingerprint and DNA inside matching that of Shelton.
