Mocs Looking to Make Playoff Run to Close Out Regular Season

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) UTC still has plenty to play for as they return from their bye week. The 5-2 Mocs still have an outside shot at the SoCon title, but more importantly, they’ve got a good shot at the playoffs.

After seven games this season, Mocs head coach Tom Arth hopes his team will finally reach their full potential heading down the stretch.
Said Arth:”I know that we have more in us than we are currently showing. That’s really in all three phases of the game.”
But UTC is showing a lot more than they did last year when they had a losing record. Now they’re still in the hunt for the playoffs.
Said receiver Bryce Nunnelly:”It’s a lot easier as a player to come in week after week and practice and prepare the way we do.”
Said defensive lineman Isaiah Mack:”I mean it brings a new edge to it. It’s kind of motivating because now all you can do is control what you can control and that’s win games and just let the rest come to you.”
For Chattanooga to make a run at the SoCon title, Arth says the Mocs have to avoid some lulls that have been a problem in games this season.
Said Arth:”We’re a very good football team at times. We’re a poor football team at times. We have to be a team that can play four quarters all three phases of the game at a high level.”
If the Mocs get four quarters every Saturday, they should qualify for the playoffs.
Said Arth:”I mean we want to win a national championship. I mean that’s our goal. I think that’s everybody’s goal. If you come into a season, and your goal is not to win your conference and win the national championship then what are you doing in this business. You might as well get out. But if you only think about winning. If you only think about championships, you have no shot of ever earning those. You have to focus on the things that are important. And that’s how you prepare. That’s how you practice. That’s how you play.”

UTC hosts VMI Saturday at 3pm at Finley Stadium.
