Lookout Valley Middle High Students Make State List for Academic Growth

Students at Lookout Valley Middle High School have shown some serious academic growth. In fact, on a statewide scale of 1 to 5, the school made the top of the list.

Todd Stinson, Principal, Lookout Valley Middle High School, “We continue to stay the course. We continue to remain focused and committed to doing what’s best for kids. We stay focused on teaching the right things the right way. We give our kids clear learning targets and grow from there every day.”

Lee Ann McBryar, Assistant Principal, “I feel a lot of our growth was based on the plan that Hamilton County central office gave to us to focus on three
areas last year. And we looked at first unpacking our standards and really knowing the standards. And second looking at aligning our assessments with our standards. And third looking at best practices.

I feel like we give more individualized education here with having smaller classes. So the kids get a little bit more
one-on-one attention in the classrooms.”

Jack Morris, Freshman, “Being smaller a lot of people have the ability to get one-on-one. You can talk with teachers individually. They can understand you.
And you can understand them. Personally it allows you to just really know a subject better at times.”

Kristen Clounch, High School Math Teacher, “Our administration started it for us and they passed it down to the teachers. And the teachers work really hard for their students. We know what it takes to be a high achieving school. And we just want to continue that. Our students have worked really hard and our parents have been very supportive of that.”

Lee Ann McBryar, “Well we’re able to meet their needs on their level. And we’re able to really figure out their learning styles and customize to what each kid needs.”

Todd Stinson, Principal, “It takes focus it. It takes commitment. And it takes purposeful intentional day-to-day instructional techniques.”
