Calvin Donaldson, Orchard Knob & Howard High win grants

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Three Hamilton County schools are among the ten announced on Monday to receive Priority school grants.

Calvin Donaldson Elementary, Orchard Knob Middle and the Howard School will get a share of $8.25 million over the next three years.

They applied and competed for the grants.

Calvin Donaldson will use the money for staff focusing on academic success for students, paying for teacher training on data usage, classroom materials, and teacher scholarships for National Board Certification.

Orchard Knob will spend theirs on counseling services, math and English language interventions, teacher enrichment summer programs, and the SOAR Saturday Academy.  They will also buy summer education programs and SOAR transportation.

Howard will hire personnel for academic interventions, bi-lingual services, training for teachers, and paying for students to attend Saturday Success Academy. They will also use the money on their emergency fund for student eyeglasses, hearing exams, dental emergencies and clothing.
