County Schools Planning Open Enrollment At 7 Schools; Schools Hiring Growth Study

  • Friday, December 7, 2018

The County School Board on Thursday will consider a resolution setting open enrollment at  seven county schools.

They include Dalewood Middle School, Howard Middle School, Lookout Valley Middle/High School, Red Bank Middle School, Rivermont Elementary School, Soddy Daisy Middle School and Woodmore Elementary School.

Rivermont was approved for open enrollment in 2017.

Also, the county schools issued a Request for Proposals for a system wide capacity and future growth study.

Officials said, "The objective of this function is to assess the long-range trends of community demographics and growth. HCDE includes 9 districts with different growth patterns and needs. The study should provide long range plans to identify future growth areas and needs for new facilities.

"Deliverables should include a growth analysis by area as well as a 10-year projection. The 10-year projection should be detailed to show projection by year and by school."

Responses were received from two firms - Cooperative Strategies and MGT Corporation.

Justin Witt, of the county schools, said, "The responses were evaluated and I recommend we retain the services of MGT Corporation for the lump sum of $149,930.00 for the existing capacity and future growth study.

"The responses were evaluated on the following criteria: a. Conciseness, responsiveness, and completeness of the proposal to the information requested, objectives, and deliverables as outlined in the RFP. b. Prior experience, qualifications, references, and past performance. c. Experience with/expertise in K-12 school projects and demonstrated performance in generating and implementing innovative and creative solutions. d. Best interests of the District."
