Walter R. Callahan
Walter R. Callahan has been charged with the rape of a 26-year-old mental health patient who cannot speak. Callahan, of 2432 Tunnel Blvd., is 69.
The incident happened July 12, 2015, but the investigation has been ongoing.
That day, police responded to a residence off of Highway 58. The woman's mother said she had allowed her cousin (Callahan) to spend the night on the couch.
She said she woke during the night and went to check on her daughter. She said she found her naked sitting up in bed crying.
The mother said Callahan, who was pulling up his pants, said, I just touched her. I wasn't messing with her."
The woman was taken to the Rape Crisis Center, where evidence of sexual contact was found. The mother said the woman previously had not been involved in any sexual activity.
