Charges were bound to the Grand Jury on Tuesday against a 23-year-old man who was arrested after a search of his apartment turned up drugs, $8,802 cash, and five assault weapons.

General Sessions Court Judge Alex McVeagh bound the charges against Alexander J. Evers, of 3131 Mountain Creek Road.

He was bound over for possession of heroin and marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia and weapons.

A detective said police first alerted on Evers after he called police to report that masked men were trying to break into his apartment. He said there was a second home invasion try.

The detective said there was a smell of marijuana coming from the apartment so a drug-sniffing K-9 was brought in. He hit on the Evers unit.

A search found suspected heroin as well as large quantities of marijuana, digital scales, a vacuum sealer, a money changer and a safe.

Also found at various locations in the apartment were an AK47 assault rifle, an assault shotgun, two assault pistols, and a semi-automatic pistol, along with a large amount of ammunition. One of the weapons was described as an Uzi.

Evers arrived during the search and asked why there was interest in anyone having marijuana.

The detective said he talked with Evers' mother, who said her son "got addicted to the money coming in and the excitement." But she said he was ready to stop the drug sales.

It was found that Evers also had $32,000 in the bank.

He said he had quit a job at CVS, but worked part-time for Rick Davis Gold and Diamonds. However, he said they had not heard of him at the Rick Davis operation.

Evers remains free on bodn.
