Battlefield Primary teacher named Golden Apple Teacher of the Year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Tennessee Valley celebrated some of the best and brightest teachers this evening.

The 10th annual Golden Apple Awards Banquet took place at the Tennessee Aquarium.

The Awards recognize outstanding teachers in the area.

News 12 and Food City were proud to recognize 30 different educators during the 2017-2018 school year.

The three finalists are McMinn County High School’s Brian Kyle, East Lake Elementary’s Rene Bruzon, and Soddy Daisy High School’s Trevor Fuller.

Fuller was not able to attend the event.

The Golden Apple 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year is Karen Wilson.

Wilson teaches special education at Battlefield Primary School, and was overwhelmed by the honor.

“I mean, I’m in the company of some wonderful educators. So, it’s very much an honor and a privilege. If you love those kids and their families, they’ll do anything for you.”

We want to congratulate all 30 winners for this school year. Visit here to view all of this year’s recipients.
