A Hixson woman has been charged in connection with a severe burn to her child that police said has the shape of a clothes iron.

Tihonie Barnett, of 4664 Cary Lane, was charged with aggravated child abuse.

Police were summoned to Children's Hospital where the child was being treated for a large burn on the back of her right arm, which was severe enough to cause the flesh to peel off.

There was a secondary burn directly above the first.

Medical personnel said it appeared the burns had occurred over the most recent 24-hour period.

Ms. Barnett denied causing injury to her child, though she said she was in her custody during that time.

She said she saw the burns after the child got out of a lukewarm bath. She said at first she "did not think it was a big deal," but then she freaked out and sent pictures of the injury to family members.
