Police Blotter: Man With Exposed Rear On MLK Blvd. Had Been Drinking; Woman's "Lucky Day" Lands Her In Police Investigation

Police while patrolling along Shallowford Road noticed a blue trash dumpster lid open and a male fall out onto the ground. The man asked police if they could watch his items that he took from the trash dumpster so no one would steal them. Police informed the man "that he needed to keep the items on his person and did not need to leave his items laying around."

At Bojangles on East Brainerd Road, police spoke with the store manager. She stated a box truck with a Georgia tag driven by Louise Floreze went through the drive thru and struck the awning damaging it earlier that morning. She said the damage was approximately $2,000.

A man said while in services at City Church of Chattanooga, an unknown person broke out the driver side window of his 2002 Honda Accord and stole his backpack and its contents. A female church member said while she was in the same service someone broke out the right side rear window of her 2016 Toyota Corolla. She said nothing was stolen out of the vehicle.

A man said he was at the Cracker Barrel at Shallowford Village Drive. He then found that he had two bicycles stolen off his truck. He stated he parked his truck in the parking lot of Cracker Barrel and then went into the restaurant to eat. When he came out of the restaurant after eating he noticed the bikes were gone.

A man who stayed at the Hilton Inn on Shallowford Village Drive said someone entered his vehicle and tried to steal it by damaging the steering column. He said the thief was unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle, but his registration, a phone charger and 10 music CDs were all stolen.

Police spoke with the manager at Sonic on Brainerd Road. He said a white male, about 45-50 years old with a beard and glasses, was parked in a drive-up stall at station 6. He said the man was driving a blue Ford Econoline 150 van with a TN drive-out tag. When he attempted to leave, he struck the drive-up stall. The damage is worth about $3,000. He said he does not believe that the damage was intentional. Police observed the drive-up stall and saw that the frame was bent on the left side and there was blue transfer paint on the front.

A resident of South Crest Road stated that he had packages stolen from his doorstep. He had video surveillance of the suspect taking the packages at approximately 9 p.m. on a Saturday. The suspect is a thin white male of average height, wearing a blue shirt, khaki shorts, and a gray hat. A white Nissan Versa was seen picking up the suspect in front of the house and then heading south towards Georgia. Various items were stolen including Jimmy Choo Cologne, a black dress, a Hillsdale Bench, and other items totaling $163.

At the Walmart on Gunbarrel Road, a woman said she last had her wallet in her purse which was sitting in her buggy while she was in there the day before at about 1:30 p.m. Later, a woman came up to her and was talking for just a moment. When the victim was checking out later at about 3 p.m., she discovered that the wallet was gone. She said that she discovered later that an illegal charge for $1,000.00 was put on her Regions debit card at a Lowe's.

A resident of Sheridan Avenue said  he and his wife were lying down to go to bed when he heard a knocking at the door. The wife went to the door and there were three men asking for cigarettes. She told the men to go away. She said it was three black males - one with dreds, one with a short afro and one with twists. After she told them to leave they continued banging on the door. After a few minutes the banging stopped and then the couple heard a loud crash. When they came in the living room they saw a rock had been thrown through. Police observed the damage and the rock that was thrown. The couple said they expect the window to cost about $200 to repair.

A resident of E 5th Street said her 2007 Chrysler was parked in the driveway, and sometime during the night, an unknown party entered the unlocked vehicle. She said the thief ransacked the interior. Her driver license and a Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union debit card were stolen.

A guest at the Hilton Garden Inn said that she received a strange call while she was staying there on a Sunday at about 9 p.m. The call was from someone who claimed to be the hotel manager named "Paul" and he stated her name and room number without her having to tell him. He then asked to confirm her credit card number, which she gave him because she thought he was the manager. She later discovered that her card had been illegally used at John Don Ecomm in a transaction for $1,067.93. She said that there is a location in Chicago, but she said that the business is web based, so it was probably done online. She said that the hotel is denying that there is anyone named "Paul" there.

A man driving on I-24 westbound right before the Ridge Cut said his vehicle (2001 Lincoln Town Car) hit a pot hole in the road. He said that as a result, both driver side rims were damaged (dented) and the front tire was flattened. He has gotten an estimate for $655 for repairs.

 Police spoke with a sales representative at Acura of Chattanooga on Chapman Road. He stated that a blue 2012 Infiniti M56 was stolen from the parking lot.There was video surveillance that captured a newer white Ford Fusion Hybrid pull into the parking lot with Florida tags at 3:49 p.m. The vehicle was occupied by two black males - one wearing a white hat and a white shirt with jeans. The other male was wearing a red shirt, red shoes and jeans. They parked the Ford Fusion and got out and walked to the parking lot looking for vehicles. The male in a white shirt and hat walked in the dealership and spoke with a sales representative. They then walked out to the vehicles and they looked at the Infiniti M56 that was later stolen. They then looked in the vehicle and did not test drive it. After looking at the vehicle they left the dealership in the white Fusion. At 5:13 p.m. a black 2018 Nissan Maxima with Georgia tags pulled in the parking lot and a black male matching the exact description of the male that looked at the vehicle at 3:49 p.m. exited the passenger side of the Maxima. He then walked to the Infiniti M56, got in he vehicle and drove the vehicle off the lot as the Maxima followed behind.

 Police were alerted to a dog locked in a hot car at 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd. An officer found the vehicle to be a Ford Focus with Alabama tags. The officer viewed the windows rolled down a little, with the vehicle not running, the dog out of water, and panting heavily. After several attempts to locate the owner failed, police were able to unlock the door with no vehicle damage and handed the dog over to McKamey's for further care and investigation. Police learned the interior of the car was 114 degrees.

At 411 E Martin Luther King Blvd., officers observed two suspicious persons - one of whom was lying on the ground, rear exposed. An officer reported, "Police made contact with these parties and identified them as Steven Leek, the exposed rear, and Christina Murray. Ms. Murray appeared to be sober and was apologetic for Mr. Leek's wardrobe malfunction. Mr. Leek admitted to drinking this day and police requested that he demonstrate his ability to walk. Mr. Leek appeared to be able to care for himself and posed no risk to public safety. Neither party held warrants for their arrest and police allowed them to leave with a verbal warning.

Officers were called to the Mapco at 1221 E Main St. on a report of a deceptive practice. A woman  said while she was taking out the garbage at work (The Overlook) she found what she thought to be a $100 bill. Sh said she kept the bill thinking that it "was her lucky day." After work she said she went home, changed her clothes, and then went to purchase several items from the Mapco. However, she was told that the money was not real. She stated that she did not know, and paid for the items that she had with real money. A store official said the woman was really understanding, apologized, and stated that she would wait for police. Police found the $100 bill to be "Motion Picture Use" money.
