Two freshmen UTC players were arrested Saturday after a police officer spotted a speeding car on the Veterans Bridge.

Isaiah Cobb is a running back from Maryville High School.

Nyvin Nelson is a linebacker from Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Ga.

An officer said he saw a red sedan going southbound on the bridge at a high rate of speed just before 1 a.m.

It was found the vehicle was going 65 mph in a 35 mph.

The officer found that Cobb was the driver. There was the odor of an intoxicant coming from the vehicle.

Cobb initially said he had not been drinking, but Nelson said he had been drinking. Nelson said the vehicle was his.

The officer said when Cobb got out of the vehicle he could smell an intoxicant on him. He said Cobb performed poorly on field tests.

Cobb said he had just come from a house party. He later admitted he had some beer earlier in the day.

The officer said Cobb had a loaded 9mm Ruger with seven rounds of ammunition.

Both 18-year-olds were taken to jail.

Cobb was charged with DUI, speeding, a minor in possession of alcohol and possession of a handgun while under the influence of an intoxicant.

Nelson was charged with DUI by consent and a minor in possession of alcohol.
