Hamilton County Schools Parent University kicks off

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County Schools Parent University had its inaugural kick off on Saturday at the First Tennessee Pavilion.

The first 400 to 500 kids that showed up to the event got a free backpack with supplies.

Parents could also sign up for Parent University sessions while they were there.

Session topics include parents as advocates, navigating the district, and supporting your student academically.

Parent University is a new district-led, community collaborative program.

“The idea of it is looking at parents as the number one stakeholder in the student’s academic success, social, emotional well-being and coming around and saying we need to equip our parents and provide them with whatever resources they need to be as equipped as possible to be partners in their students education,” Hamilton County Schools Community Engagement Specialist Janelle Drake said.
