Schools trying to slow down traffic around Battle Academy downtown

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Some parents are concerned drivers are going too fast near Battle Academy.

The school sits at the corner of Market and Main streets in downtown Chattanooga.

Hamilton County school officials say they are working closely with the city government to make the school zone more clear.

This includes possibly trimming trees that are blocking signs, and putting up new signs.

Tim Hensley with the school system tells us “We’re interested in slowing people down and making sure we have a safe environment for our kids to get to school. Parents coming in and out. It’s usually a congested area in all schools. And Battle is certainly in one of the more congested areas of the city. So certainly very interested in everyone slowing down just a bit.”

Chattanooga city councilman Erskine Oglesby has toured the school with administrators, hoping to make traffic safer.
