Hamilton County Schools To Close Thursday Due To Expected Ice On Roads

Hamilton County Schools will be closed Thursday due to forecast rain to last through the evening and freezing conditions to follow after 2 a.m. in the higher elevations in the county.  Freezing conditions are expected to last until the afternoon in the higher elevations impacting travel in the area.  Athletic events will be rescheduled and practices canceled Thursday evening.

 

School-aged childcare will be open from 8 a.m.

to 6 p.m. in seven locations in the community to assist parents.  The locations open will be Battle Academy, East Ridge Elementary, Red Bank Elementary, Harrison Elementary, Middle Valley Elementary, Wolftever Creek Elementary and East Brainerd Elementary.

Twelve-month employees report as scheduled but use caution, understanding travel terrain and conditions in your area.

 

The district will take the opportunity to perform extra cleaning and sanitizing for flu and illness prevention in light of flu outbreaks in surrounding communities. Officials said, "Hamilton County has had strong attendance numbers this month, but this will be a good opportunity to take extra precaution during the flu season."
