Authorities said a man charged in a carjacking and kidnapping early Sunday morning had just gotten out of prison for auto theft.

Fred Jefferson Cagle III is facing multiple new charges from the incident in Soddy Daisy.

At approximately 3:20 a.m., Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call regarding a stolen auto from the Kangaroo Express at 13424 Dayton Pike.

The victim of the car theft said he had been assaulted by a man he knew as "Tyler." He showed a deputy contusions on his chest.

The victim said he had been at a friend's house at 12635 Uren Lane. He said when he left that "Tyler" followed him to his vehicle and told him to take him to Graysville. He said when he refused that the man took his keys and got into the driver's seat.

He said the man began driving recklessly down Highway 27 - at one time driving in the middle of the median and knocking down traffic markers.

He said he was finally able to get out at the Circle K.

At 12635 Uren Lane, deputies found a plethora of beer cans littering the yard and a strong odor of alcohol. Tyson Cagle, who answered the door, said his brother used the name of Tyler.

Police said it was found that Fred Jefferson Cagle III has an extensive criminal history of violent felonies.

At approximately 8:45 a.m., deputies were contacted in regards to a wreck with injuries which occurred earlier on Pythian Road in Harrison. The suspect fled into the woods, but was apprehended a short time later.

An injured person who was riding with the suspect was found at the area of the crash and transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle involved in the accident on Pythian Road is the same vehicle that had been stolen in the earlier incident at the Kangaroo at 13424 Dayton Pike.

Cagle was taken into custody and charged with carjacking, kidnapping, leaving the scene of an injury crash, failure to render aid, and driving on a revoked license.
