Police Blotter: $25,000 Cash, Gun Stolen from Car At Double Tree; Woman Upset That Store Won't Take Fake $3 Bills

A guest at the Double Tree Hotel on Chestnut Street said his vehicle was broken into during the night and that $25,000 and a Ruger LCP handgun had been taken. Police asked the staff to view security camera footage and it was determined that the vehicle had been broken into at 3:45 a.m. by a younger black male. Auto theft division investigators were notified of the video evidence at the location. Police dusted the vehicle for finger prints and submitted the fingerprint cards for processing.

A member of the Fraud Department of SunTrust Bank said a customer's credit card was used online for 140 illegal transactions. She said some of the transactions they were able to return to the merchant, but could not do them all. She said the bank is out $37,307.78. The customer was not charged with any of these as SunTrust cleared his account.

A woman told of her phone being stolen while at 2225 Gunbarrel Road. She said she was sitting next to an older white male at the bar and he said he was going to leave. When he got up he grabbed her phone and left. She believes he grabbed the phone on accident. She tried calling her phone several times, but no one would answer. She used the find my Iphone app which located the phone at a residence on River Cove Drive. She used this app several times while speaking to the police and the location stayed the same. An officer went to the address and the phone was located and given back to the woman. The man said he was talking to the woman and when he left he thought the Iphone he grabbed was his.

A man said he was at the Speedway gas station at 2245 Hickory Valley Road. He pulled up into the parking lot and exited his vehicle to go inside. He left the vehicle running and did not lock his doors. While he was inside the store, an unknown person got inside of his vehicle and drove away.

A man said he parked his vehicle in the parking lot of Lowe's on Highway 153 next to another white van and ran inside to get a couple of tools that he needed. He left the keys in the ignition and did not lock the doors when he departed the vehicle. He came out of Lowe's about 15 minutes later and noticed his vehicle was no longer in the parking lot. Lowe's video showed two men inside an older black SUV that was parked to the left and up from the van. It appeared that the driver had opened and shut his door and the passenger exited the vehicle once before proceeding over to the van and getting into the driver's seat and driving away. The owner said there was $3,000-$4,000 worth of miscellaneous tools in the van.

A resident of E. 3rd Street said a woman approached his residence and stole a package containing a Power Sonic Battery from his front porch. He allowed an officer to view security footage. The officer observed a white female with a blue tank top and black yoga pants approach his residence, pick up the package sitting in front of his door, and walk away with the package.

At a store at 2006 McCallie Ave., the manager said a black female attempted to pay for some items using a fake $3 bill. The woman had attempted to buy Hawaiian Punch and a can of soup, valued at $3. When the cashier refused to take the fake money the female got upset. She left the store prior to police arrival headed east on McCallie Avenue. The female was described as about 5'6" wearing a pink undershirt with a blue shirt over it. The fake money, which was a fake $3 bill with multiple symbols on it, was turned over to police.
