Johnathan Lamar Nelson
A Trion, Ga., man has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of a passenger in his car in a wreck on McBrien Road on Aug. 12.
Johnathan Lamar Nelson, 40, is also charged with failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and DUI.
He was indicted by the Hamilton County Grand jury in connection with the death of 69-year-old Grady Lamar Nelson.
The wreck was a single-vehicle crash in the 300 block of McBrien Road.
Johnathan Nelson was initially said to be critically injured.
At approximately 3:13 p.m., Chattanooga Police were notified of the crash that occurred at 311 McBrien Road.
The CPD Traffic/DUI Unit was notified and responded.
The vehicle was traveling southbound on McBrien Road negotiating a slight curve to the right. Witnesses said the vehicle went across the roadway to the left and then over corrected to the right causing the vehicle to come to rest in a yard at 311 McBrien Road.
After leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck a tree, then spun off and came to rest against another tree.
The passenger was unrestrained and suffered fatal injury. The driver was transported to a local hospital.
