Trio Charged In Armed Robbery Of Dunkin Doughnuts On Highway 58

Three men have been charged with the robbery of the Dunkin Doughnuts on Highway 58 on Wednesday night.

Charged with aggravated robbery were Justin Marcus Brakefield, 29, of 7310 Standifer Gap Road, Demarketh King, 30, of 4613 Locksley Lane, and Xavior Travon Robinson, 18, of 3606 Locksley Lane.

An employee said three males walked into the business through a back door that had been left unopen by a new employee who was taking out the trash.

He said there were two black males and a white male. The white male was wielding a gun and demanding entry into the safe. One of the robbers said they knew that the combination started with a C and had six numbers. A shift manager then opened the safe and the trio left with the money it held.

Police responded and saw a blue Pontiac leaving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle stopped after a short pursuit and the occupants fled. Officers were able to capture one of the males, Robinson, in the woods. He had fallen and landed on briars and had to be checked out at the hospital.

Police said Robinson was discarding a large amount of cash that was in a Dunkin Doughnuts bag as he ran. A sweaty Brakefield was spotted walking nearby on Webb Road. Officers found King, who was the owner of the Pontiac, hiding at the In Town Suites on Lee Highway after finding a piece of paper with that address in the car. He had warrants on him for a prior aggravated robbery.

Robinson said he had been picked up moments before the robbery and agreed to take part.

Police said the amount of money discarded during the chase was equivalent to that taken from the business.
