Richmond Tanner Atkins
Police have arrested 20-year-old Richmond Tanner Atkins for breaking in homes and cars in the Dallas Road area.
Atkins, of 731 Mansion Circle, was charged with aggravated burglary and public intoxication.
On Saturday, police received a call from a man on E. Dallas Road who said a tall white male with long hair had entered their back door. He said their house was set up so a chime would go off when a door was opened.
The resident said he confronted the young man in his front yard, but he got in a sedan and left.
He said it was found that he had gone into an attached garage and left a door open.
The man said he caught the incident on his video. An officer was starting to watch it when there was a call about another incident with a man matching the same description. A witness said the man had entered someone's Crown Victoria and driven off toward Hixson.
The officer located the Crown Victoria on Dartmouth Street with the engine running and the door only partially shut. The suspect then came running up. The officer pulled his weapon and told him to halt. He said the man seemed confused, but he finally complied.
In the car were several purses and handbags along with loose bills and makeup. A Macbook was found in the back seat along with a GPS school ID.
Atkins was taken back to the house on E. Dallas Road and the man there said he was the one who broke into his house.
