Howard High School stadium

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Howard School will soon have a brand new stadium for sporting events.

The campus has needed to replace its old field for a long time.

Now, construction crews are hard at work to build a brand new one.

Howard Head Football Coach John Starr is excited about what this will mean for the school.

“It’s going to be the big motivation for us. We have been playing at the old field, but there is a lot of pride in Howard high school. And playing at a brand new stadium is going to be better.”

School leaders and students can’t wait to see the new stadium take shape.

Hamilton County School Superintendent, Dr. Bryan Johnson, says this is an investment in Howard’s future.

“I think sometimes the public says, why do you invest in tracks? Or why do you invest in football stadiums or why do you invest in basketball gymnasiums? Well, the reality is there is a direct correlation and research shows it. There is a direct correlation between extracurricular activities and student achievement.”

The new Howard stadium is expected to have about 1,700 seats when it’s finished.

It will be used for football games, soccer matches, and track races.

It is expected to be completed in the fall.
