HCSO to Host ‘Read Across America’

Hamilton County, TN (WDEF) – Each year, public schools across America celebrates “National Reading Day,” where elected officials, public servants, and other community members visit local schools and read to the students.

It is an unfortunate reality that homeschool children, small children in Mother’s Day Out programs, and Non-School aged children do not always have this opportunity.

To ensure these communities of children are included, on March 4th from 10:00am to 12pm, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will host an event at 6233 Dayton Boulevard for the local homeschool and non-school age children to come and be read to by Sheriff Jim Hammond and members of the sheriff’s office.

Snacks will be provided and each child will receive a free children’s book courtesy of the Hamilton County “READ 20” Program. Children will also receive coloring books, crayons, and a Junior Deputy Badge.

There will also be a K-9 present, a drone demonstration, and a touch-a-truck exhibit.

Any homeschool child or non-school aged children are welcome to attend, as long as a parent or guardian is present.
