A Chattanooga man is facing federal charges after he was caught with cocaine and a loaded gun.

Jerriod Ray Sivels is charged with distributing cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Agents said a controlled buy of cocaine was arranged with Sivels last Nov. 15. Sivels sent text messages detailing the deal. The source was provided with $4,400 to buy 111 grams of cocaine.

Authorities said Sivels exited his residence on 207 Gillespie Terrace in his orange Dodge Challenger. He was said to be driving erratically and at a high rate of speed.

Last Sunday around midnight, agents established surveillance on Sivels in the vicinity of 3505 Hoyt St. He left in a white Infiniti Q50. He then went to the Parc 1346 Apartment complex at 1346 Gunbarrel Road.

Agents approached him as he entered the gate to the complex. A 9 mm Taurus Millennium G2 handgun was in the driver's seat. It was loaded with a round in the chamber.

Sivels has a prior felony conviction.
