Funeral Service Will Be Monday For Former General Contractor Shot And Killed By Deputy

The funeral service will be Monday for Charles Bradley "Brad" Payne, who was shot and killed by a deputy in an incident last Saturday.

The Sheriff's Office said there was a disorder call and that the 42-year-old Payne was first armed with a baseball bat and then a knife.

The TBI is looking into the incident.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he was a 1994 graduate of Central High School and Chattanooga Barber College.

He was a general contractor in Chattanooga for many years.

He was described by his family as "a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend to everyone who knew him."

He is survived by his son, Justice Payne; mother, Barbara Payne; sister, Ondie (Dennis Benedict) Payne; brother, Jamey Payne; special nephew, Addison Benedict; and cousin, Missy, all of Chattanooga.

The funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Heritage Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Baron Ammons officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 12-1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
