Rivermont Elementary School was evacuated this morning due to smoke in the school from what was determined to be a faulty heating and air unit.
At 9:30 a.m. Chattanooga firefighters from Q16, E12, Q19, Q10, S19, E5, and Battalion 3 responded to an automatic fire alarm at Rivermont Elementary School, 3330 Hixson Pike.
Captain Charles Chavis with Quint #16 advised crews found light smoke in the school upon arrival and the school had been evacuated by school personnel.
"The source of the smoke was located and determined to be from a faulty heating and air unit.
The building was ventilated and checked with air monitors to ensure the air quality building was safe," officials said.
After determining that the school was safe for occupancy, the children were allowed to return to the school.
No damage to the school was found and no injuries reported.
