Louis Brody
The co-owner of Brody Jewelers is facing two vehicular assault charges after a head-on crash on Signal Mountain Road.
Louis Brody, 50, was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault and DUI.
The wreck happened on Feb. 23 near Baker School Road. The officer spoke to both drivers after they had been extricated from their vehicles.
A woman said she was driving southbound on Signal Mountain Road when a vehicle going northbound crossed the center lane and struck the front of her vehicle. Passengers in the vehicle gave the same account.
An officer said Brody had extremely slurred speech and the odor of an intoxicant. He said he could not remember exactly what had happened, though he remembered driving.
He said he had consumed 5-6 alcoholic drinks.
Brody was not given a field sobriety test because of his injuries, but the officer said he found signs of impairment in his eyes.
He tested .164 alcohol content after a blood draw. The drunk level is .08.
He was taken to a hospital emergency room and turned himself in at the jail last week.
His bond was set at $27,000.
His first court date in General Sessions Court is May 24.
Brody was charged with reckless driving and violating the open container law in 2009 and reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries in 2014.
Brody Jewelers has long operated from a store in Rossville and also has a unit on Cherry Street near Seventh in Chattanooga.
