CCA students create table tops for Riverbend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Students at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts are getting a chance to show off their art work and make money for the school.

It’s all part of the school’s table top project that has been going on for ten years.

They partner with the Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union to make this possible. The creations will be used at the Riverbend Festival in two weeks.

This year’s theme was the golden hour. Students first make a small painting of what they want to create. Then 30 designs are selected to be tabletops.

Some are already completed, while other students are putting the finishing touches on their pieces.

Students and teachers say this is a great way to get experience.

“I guess my favorite part is that the kids get the chance to do something that’s out there in public,” said Chad Burnette, a visual arts teacher at CCA.

“Last year my table top got sold and I see it everyday in one of the teacher’s classrooms because she bought it,” said Micah Bean, a student at CCA.

The table tops will be auctioned off and the money raised goes back to the art department.
