Police have arrested Marvin Dewayne Thompson in a case in which 10 9mm shell casings were found in Curtis Street.

A woman told police she was driving on Curtis Street to go to her sister's house when she saw Thompson pull a gun out of his pocket and begin shooting at her. She said she drove on rather than go to the sister's house.

Thompson, 21, of 2110 Camden St., was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct, vandalism, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun during the commission of a felony.

Police said a man who witnessed the shooting around 3:22 p.m. began following Thompson, while reporting his location to police. The witness said Thompson had been standing in the street wearing a red vest and black pants and firing shots at what appeared to be in the air.

The officer spotted the man with the red vest at the corner of Dodson Avenue and Cushman Street. He said the man put his hands in the air, but kept walking rather than lying down as he was told. He said the man began running, but finally stopped at Taylor and Bachman.

He said he was able to get handcuffs on the man, who did not have a gun on him. The witness said it appeared the man ditched the gun somewhere around Triple T's at Dodson and Bachman. No gun was located.

The officer then located the 10 9mm shelling casings in front of 2713 and 2715 Curtis.

He said he was then approached by the woman whose car had been shot at. There were multiple bullet holes on the outside of the car.

An investigator with Major Crimes said it did not need to respond since no one was hurt. A member of the Gang Unit had the same response. It was noted that Thompson is a validated Crips gang member.

A member of the Gun Team said he would go to the jail to talk with Thompson.
