Chattanooga Police on Sunday arrested Javonte J. Wynn in the June 19 murder of Robert Gill in the 3200 block of South Street, saying that video and a witness tied him to the scene.
He was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony.
On June 19 at approximately 6:11 a.m., Chattanooga Police responded to 3219 South St. on a report of a person shot.
Upon arrival, police located the victim lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was 29.
Video surveillance was obtained from the Bayberry Apartments on Windsor Street from 3:25 a.m. It showed Gill exiting a red Pontiac G6 with distinctive rims. The vehicle was also occupied by two other black males. Police said the two were Javonte Wynn and Marquise Burress.
The video at 5:17 a.m. showed the same two black males entering the driver and passenger seats of the red Pontiac. A minute later Gill is seen getting in the back seat.
The Pontiac leaves going east on Windsor Street.
A witness told police that Gill and Burress had been together in the red Pontiac all day on the 18th. She said Gill, Burress and Wynn left her residence at 2 a.m. on June 19 to run an errand. She said she and Gill were involved in "an adult activity" around 4 a.m. She said Burress called out to Gill from the living room at least five times saying he needed to leave by 5 a.m.
She said Gill and Burress left around 5:17 a.m. She said Burress had a black semi-automatic handgun earlier.
The witness said she was on the phone with Gill from 5:21 to 5:31. She said she heard 6-7 gunshots and Gill never answered again. She said there were two different voices in the background as she talked with Gill.
Police said they located the red Pontiac at Maple Hills Way. Fingerprints of Gill, Wynn and Burress were found "all over the vehicle."
Police checked cell phone records and said it showed Gill and Burress at the scene of the shooting at the time the shots were fired.
Wynn was arrested May 31 on charges of possession of marijuana for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
