Government Offices, UTC, Other Schools Closed Or Closing Early Friday Due To Water Break Downtown

Due to the water main break near downtown Chattanooga the city of Chattanooga will close the following buildings on Friday:

All Hamilton County Government offices impacted by the ongoing water main break problem will be closed today.

 

If you have a court case scheduled for Friday, you are asked to call the office of your presiding judge to see whether or not you are to report for your case.

 

The Hamilton County Juvenile Court and the Office of the Juvenile Court Clerk are open.

This includes the Child Support Division on East Main Street.


The Hamilton County Clerk’s tag and title office in Bonny Oaks is open today until 4:30 p.m.

Couples needing a marriage license are advised to visit the Bradley County Clerk’s office or another neighboring County Clerk office.


All emergency responders remain on duty.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus, all classes and activities are canceled Friday and campus is closed.

 

The State of the University address by Chancellor Steve Angle, scheduled for 11:15 a.m., also is canceled. A new date will be announced but has not been scheduled at this time.

 

Updates about the situation at UTC will be announced as needed.

All Hamilton County Schools will close early Friday and follow the early release closing and bus schedule.  The latest information from local Emergency Management indicates a continued problem with water delivery to schools due to a water main break downtown that will impact more schools during the day.  Red Bank Middle and High will continue their closing process for 10:15.  All school-age childcare will also be closed this afternoon.  Schools will provide food for students for lunch where possible.  Football game information will be released later today.

 

CSAS, CCA, Brown Academy, Battle Academy, The Howard School, Howard Academy, Dawn Program, and Normal Park will be closed Friday. Childcare will also be closed at these schools.

Baylor School is closed. It  will reschedule Middle School Parents‘ Day and other meetings.  It will notify dorm parents of its contingency plans.  Please follow the school’s website, emergency text and social media for updates.

CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga is affected by the water outage. Its water supply has been interrupted. Officials said, "We are doing everything possible to keep our operations continuing, however, we are in water conservation mode." 

Imaging is being rescheduled for our Hixson and Georgia campuses, as well as Ooltewah Imaging. 

Hospital Hixson and Hospital Georgia are open.

Cardiac rehab and the fitness center are closed.

The day care center is open.


Visitors are asked to stay home until water is restored.

Patients are being asked to conserve water.  Officials have arranged for water to prep meals.

Erlanger Health System downtown facilities including Baroness Hospital, Medical Mall, Children’s Hospital, Kennedy Outpatient Center and other buildings at the downtown campus have been minimally impacted by the water break. Water levels and pressure are currently being maintained at the downtown campus. 

 

Erlanger North Hospital is currently without water and emergency procedures are in place. 

 

Erlanger East Hospital has not been impacted by the water shortage. 

 

Emergency protocols are in place to ensure water is maintained to provide safe and essential services for patient care. Should there be any changes in scheduling, patients will be notified as soon as possible with options to reschedule for non-emergent needs. Erlanger is working with all of its regional and community partners to ensure medical care is not impacted.  Erlanger wants to thank all the agencies that are working to resolve the situation.

 

Please understand Erlanger is working hard to ensure services are maintained.

All Head Start and Early Head Start centers will close early today. The child’s center will be in contact with additional details.

Street Closures: 

E 5th Street will be closed on Friday to through traffic between Douglas Street and Collins Street while Tennessee American Water completes work on the water valve located in the street at 830 E. 5th St. closed. Local detours are posted.

At this time, Parkridge Medical Center, Parkridge East Hospital, Parkridge Valley Child and Adolescent Campus and Parkridge Valley Adult and Senior Campus are not affected by this issue.

Hamilton County Schools announced the following regarding football games Friday night:

Canceled Game:

The Lookout Valley Middle/High football game for tonight has been canceled.  The visiting team was coming from North Carolina and needed to know the status of the game early to prepare. 

Still to be decided:

The game between The Howard School and Tyner Academy will be decided later this afternoon.  That decision may come as late as 5 p.m.  The game is scheduled at Howard.

Games to be played:

Games at Hixson High, Central High, East Hamilton, Ooltewah High, and Soddy Daisy High are still scheduled to be played this evening.  The schools are taking extra steps as a precaution by bringing in portable bathroom options and bottled water.  These games are subject to change if water situations change at the stadiums.
