Lighted guardrails will be added to the Holmberg Bridge, which leads from the entrance to the Walnut Street Bridge to the Hunter Museum and Bluff View Arts District.
The City Council on Tuesday approved the project costing $147,288 plus a $15,000 contingency.
The city earlier replaced the original glass panel walkway because the expensive panels were constantly breaking and having to be replaced.
That work cost about $650,000 total.
The $1.6 million bridge, which is part of the Riverwalk, opened in 2005.
It is named for Bill and Ruth Holmberg.
