More Outdoor park closings around Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – While a controversy is brewing in Georgia over closing state parks and waterways, more parks are closing around Chattanooga.

TVA is closing more of their recreational areas, including Watts Bar and Guntersville dams and the Raccoon Mountain property. (Chickamauga was already closed)

The closures include boat ramps, picnic areas and restrooms.

River access points outside of the closed areas are still open, as well as trails on undeveloped TVA land.

The Mayor’s shelter in place order on Thursday included closing Coolidge Park, Walnut Street Bridge and the Stringers Ridge Park.

The park system has now closed the Chattanooga and Chickamauga National Military parks.

The state of Tennessee has also shutdown Prentice Cooper State Park on Signal Mountain.

Area State Parks like Cloudland Canyon, Fall Creek Falls, South Cumberland and DeSoto  State Park remain open, but with capacity limits, shorter hours and public facility closures.

Be sure to check before you go, IF you go.

Just about all campgrounds in the region are closed.

And officials worry that as more parks close, more people are getting funneled to the ones that remain open.

Grundy County officials are asking the state to close their parks (Fiery Gizzard, South Cumberland) on the Plateau.
