Mother with 6 children loses home in overnight fire

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – An East Chattanooga home burned in a fire around midnight.

It happened in the 1100 block of North Hawthorne Street.

Chattanooga firefighters found the wood frame fire with heavy smoke coming from the front and flames coming through the windows.

They got it out in 15 minutes.

But a mother and her six children are getting assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
