Former Georgia coach Mark Richt talks heart attack, faith at FCA banquet

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Former Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Richt and his wife Kathryn spoke at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Lookout Mountain’s annual banquet Friday night at the First Tennessee Pavilion.

Richt coached 15 years at Georgia before heading to his alma mater Miami for his last three years. Richt has kept busy after retiring form coaching, working as an analyst on the ACC Network and recovering from a heart attack in late 2019.

Richt says he’s thankful for that heart attack, as it puts things into perspective for him.

“My faith means a lot to me, of course. I’ll say this, had a little heart attack a while back. When you think it’s the end you wonder where you’re going next, it’s important where you’re going,” Richt said. “I had the peace to know I was going to heaven, and that’s the beauty of it. I just want to spread the Word.”

Richt says not much has changed in his life since his heart attack, besides cutting out Cheez-Its and cheeseburgers.
