What’s Right With Our Schools: Brandi Adam, Red Bank Elementary

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – A Red Bank Elementary School Instructional Coach earns National Recognition as a 2021 Extraordinary Educator. Brandi Adam is one of  just two teachers in the entire state to receive the honor.

Brandi says, “I was very blessed to get the Extraordinary Educator from Curriculum Associates. They are the parent company that houses our program I-Ready that our county has used for math for many years, and I, at one point, taught third grade math so that’s why I’m very familiar with it. I’ve always been very evidence based in my practice, because I want to make instructional decisions that are based on what’s going to be better for kids, and I would start with where are they currently at and go from there.

Hannah McDevitt teaches first grade at Red Bank Elementary.

She says, “Well, as they say, ‘You don’t know what you don’t know.’ So, as a new teacher Brandi has done a great job collaborating with me and helping me strengthen some of my weaknesses. so I can progress and become a successful teacher for my current class, and all of my future classes.

Brandi explains,  “As an instructional coach, I get the luxury of working with all of the teachers and students at red Bank elementary school, and that means I get to work with teachers in the areas that we can decide what would be best for them to benefit the students together. I might go into a room and will collect some information by watching the class, and determine some possible next steps that can help support the teacher in the area that she wants her class to grow in.”

Senator Bo Watson adds, “The state of Tennessee is focusing on, and continues to focus on, your education, and we can only be successful if we have great teachers in the classrooms; and great principles.”

Brandi concludes, “This is such an honor, and we all work so hard because we love these kids so much, and as hard as this year is and yet it went so well I know next year is going to be even better.
