Hamilton County Schools raise Nutritionists wages and hosts interviews

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Less than 24 hours ago school nutritionists in Hamilton County schools were making $9.79 an hour.

But, after last night’s school board meeting, school nutrition employees will be getting paid $12 per hour.

Kristen Nauss, HCS Nutritionist says, “So, you can’t teach a child that’s hungry. So, our school nutrition workers show up every day. They are doing physical labor and they do it because they care a lot about our children.”

Nauss says that sometimes cafeteria workers are under appreciated and this raise is exactly what they deserve.

“They want to put out good quality healthy food so that when they get into classroom they are ready to learn. So, paying them a better rate is what they deserve as well as shows them how much we appreciate them and how important of a role they play in that child’s day”, adds Nauss.

If you are interested in becoming a Hamilton County Schools Nutritionist, you can attend any of the three open interviews that are being held next week.

Tuesday’s will be at Tyner High Academy.

Wednesday’s will be at Dodds Service Center with Spanish speakers available.

Thursday’s will be held at Rivermont Elementary.

All interviews will be from 3 to 5 pm.
