County Schools Off On Wednesday; County Commission Cancels Meeting; Other Closings Announced

Hamilton County Schools will be closed on Wednesday due to hazardous road conditions.

School Age Child Care will be closed. All school activities are cancelled.

Twelve-month employees will use their discretion and report on a two-hour delay. If unable to safely report to work, contact your supervisor for more information.

Due to inclement weather, County Commission Chairman Jeff Eversole has postponed the Wednesday Hamilton County Board of Commissioners’ regular Commission meeting.

It will be moved to Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 9:30 a.m.

The meeting will take place at the Courthouse, Room 402, 625 Georgia Ave. Board of Commissioners may meet prior to the meeting at 8:30 a.m. and/or immediately following the regular meeting.

Chattanooga City Court and the Chattanooga City Court Clerk's Office will be closed on Wednesday. Court operations will resume on Thursday.

Chattanooga facilities will open on a two-hour delay on Wednesday. City facilities will open at 10 a.m. All essential employees will report as usual.

Hamilton County General Government will be operating on a delayed start and opening at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

County employees who are unable to commute to work due to unsafe driving conditions in certain parts of the county will not be required to come into the office and will have the option to work remotely. If worsening conditions persist, officials will adjust accordingly on Wednesday morning.

Rhea County Commission Chairman Jim Reed cancelled Tuesday night's Rhea County Commission monthly meeting due to the inclement weather. Chairman Reed has set Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. as the next regular scheduled meeting.

The Department of Public Works suspended the collection of garbage and recycle on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, it will operate on a two-hour delay. Officials will continue to monitor weather conditions and will follow the schedule of normal collection days.

The collection of brush and bulk trash will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday.

The collection of loose leaves will resume on Thursday.

The Refuse Collection Centers and Recycle Centers, as well as the Wood Recycle Center, Household Hazardous Waste Facility, and Birchwood Landfill will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday.

Baylor School will be closed on Wednesday.

The Bradley Courthouse and County government offices will be closed again on Wednesday.

UTC will be closed as follows.
Campus Operations – Wednesday

  • All classes are CANCELLED.
  • UTC Library will be CLOSED.
  • University administrative offices will be CLOSED.
  • Events scheduled to take place on campus are CANCELLED. Organizers will communicate if these events are to be rescheduled and, if so, on what dates and times.
  • University Center (UC) will be OPEN 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • UC Game Room will be OPEN 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • UTC Bookstore will be OPEN 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) will be OPEN 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • CARTA/MOCS Express: NORMAL operations, as conditions permit.

  • Crossroads Dining Hall: OPEN 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Chick-fil-A: OPEN 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
