TSSAA Lifts Postseason Ban on Brainerd Basketball Team

The TSSAA lifted the post-season ban for the Brainerd basketball team on Monday during their Board of Control meeting. Brainerd and Austin East were given a two-year playoff ban for a fight between the two teams on February 10, 2018. The Panthers and Road Runners appeared headed for the post-season last year, but they were forced to skip the playoffs as punishment for their on-the-court brawl. Both schools were going to be ineligible for the playoffs for the upcoming season, but the TSSAA relented after both schools presented evidence at the TSSAA Board of Control meeting that they were taking steps for better sportsmanship.

  1. Voted to approve the second appeal of Austin-East Magnet High School and to remove both the restrictive probation and probation placed on their basketball program.
