Finley Stadium wants both soccer teams

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Finley Stadium board of directors is meeting, ahead of their fall sports season.

They met for the first time, since deciding to bring a new professional soccer team to Chattanooga.

While the contract of the current team, Chattanooga Football Club, is still undecided, executives said they’re not planning to keep Finley’s playing rights exclusive to one team.

They believe the stadium is first and foremost a sports arena, and should be used for as many sports-related activities as possible.

Board members say they’re making options available for both soccer teams.

“We are in preliminary discussions with both soccer organizations that are in town. We’re trying to offer pathways to negotiation to bring contracts to approval. Its been what I’d call positive and productive, with a lot more work to do.”

The new pro team is set to start playing next year.
